The Idaho National Guard’s 101st Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team consists of 22 Soldiers and Airmen.

The unit supports civil authorities at domestic incident sites, which may involve areas affected by terrorism or natural disasters.

101ST CST SUPPORT CAPABILITIES

The unit’s capabilities include identifying hazards, assessing the current and projected consequences, advising on response measures and assisting with appropriate requests for additional support.

 

We provide 24/7/365 response capabilities when requested to support an incident commander under the incident command system to include:

 

  • Provide presumptive identification of chemical, biological and radiological agents.
  • Provide recommendations on event Mitigation, medical treatment and follow-on state and federal resources.
  • Provide field site communications connectivity.
  • Work as partners with Idaho’s six regional HAZMAT teams and other state or federal responders.

As important as knowing what we can accomplish is understanding what we cannot or will not do to include:

  •  
  • We never take charge of a scene.
  • We are not a bomb squad but we are trained on EOD-related issues.
  • We are not equipped to perform mass casualty response or mass decontamination.


    TRAINING:

     

    hazmat agentsThe 101st CST‘s rigorous training schedule includes numerous local, regional and national level exercises each year. We tailor each exercise to meet both CST training objectives and those of our coordinating partner agencies. We are federally funded, allowing mutually beneficial training to be accomplished at no additional cost to the agencies or municipalities with whom we work.
