Members of the National Guard will be notified of eligibility with their 20 year letter (NOE) for RCSBP. This decision must be made within 90 days from the date of their 20yr letter. RCSBP starts on the separation date and lasts until the start of collecting retirement pay. At that time service members must make a decision on SBP, which is a separate program.

Reduced Age Retirement (Eligibility requirements)
The date of which a M-Day/Traditional retiree may receive retirement pay can be reduced if they meet the requirements under Title 10 USC 12731 (f) (2).
The basic conversion of applicable orders is to reduce the retirement date by 90 days for every 90 days spent on active duty after 28 January 2008. These periods of active service must fall under Sections 688, 12301(a), 12302, 12304, 12304(a), 12305, 12406, or other provisions as listed in Title 10 USC 12731 (f) (2).
Title 32 502 (f) can be included if the orders were for the purposes of responding to a national emergency declared by the President or supported by federal funds.
Prior to 30 September 2014 this time will be accrued in 90 day blocks in the same fiscal year. Starting 1 October 2014 this accrual can cross fiscal years.
